24JUL25 Flooding Update – July 19

We want to reassure residents that the flooding experienced on Saturday, July 19 was not due to a failure of the Town’s infrastructure or equipment. The issue was caused by an intense volume of rain in a short period of time—over 2 inches in 20 minutes—quickly overwhelming our storm drains, which were operating at full capacity.

If your property was affected, the first step is to contact your insurance provider. We understand some residents do not have coverage or have been denied.

The Town has submitted an application to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP), and we expect to hear more next week regarding approval and what next steps may look like.

There have been questions about why a state of emergency was not declared. In this case, the situation did not meet the criteria required for an official declaration

We are pleased to share that our request for designation under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program has been approved for the flooding event that began on July 19, 2025.

Residents affected by the flooding can now apply directly to PDAP for assistance.

Please note that the Town’s role in this process is now complete, and all further communication and assistance will be handled directly through PDAP.
