  • Process for Obtaining Commissioner of Oaths Services Through the Town Office


    1. Call the Town Office to Book an Appointment

    2. Prepare Required Documents

    Residents must bring:

    · The original documents requiring an oath.

    · Valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s licence, passport)

    · Any additional forms or instructions provided by the agency requesting the declaration

    Note: Commissioners of Oaths cannot certify copies or provide legal advice.

    3. Visit the Town Office

    · The individual appears in person, as the Commissioner must witness the signing.

    · The Commissioner verifies identity.

    · The document must not be signed beforehand; the signature must be made in front of the Commissioner

    4. Administration of Oath or Declaration

    · The Commissioner administers the required oath/affirmation.

    5. Completion and Return of Documents

    · The fully signed and sealed document is returned to the resident immediately.

    6. Limitations and Disclaimers

    · A Commissioner of Oaths is not a Notary Public.

    · They cannot:

    o Certify true copies

    o Provide legal advice

    o Witness certain legal documents unless authorized (e.g., real estate documents)
